What happened: A 22-year-old man from Pure Koili hamlet of Korihar village slipped into the Sai river at Sirsa Ghat on Saturday, 31 October 2026, and had not been found by Sunday afternoon. The ghat falls under Gurubakhshganj police station. News Nation Bharat put the time at about 3 PM. A State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team began searching on Sunday, 1 November, and Dainik Bhaskar and Amar Ujala report that PAC personnel have joined the search.

Villagers had taken out a kalash yatra on Saturday ahead of a Shrimad Bhagwat katha in the village. After the procession, the young man went with others to fill water at the ghat. Dainik Bhaskar reports that he slipped on the steps and went into deep water, and that people at the ghat tried but failed to pull him out. The gram pradhan’s representative, Ashu Tiwari, informed the police. Harchandpur MLA Rahul Lodhi of the Samajwadi Party met the family on Sunday, gave them financial help, and spoke to the Superintendent of Police, the Additional SP and the SDM to ask for a faster search and early government aid, Dainik Bhaskar reports.

Why it matters: Sirsa Ghat serves several villages on the edge of Lalganj and Harchandpur, where families use the river for rituals, bathing and daily needs. Villagers gathered at the ghat on Sunday and asked for the search to be stepped up. The weeks ahead bring more kathas, processions and Kartik bathing to rural ghats, and most of these ghats have no railings, warning boards or trained divers on hand.

Honest opinion: The response came within a day, but the full search began only on Sunday, and in a flowing river the first hours count most. Rural ghats get attention after a drowning and are then forgotten until the next one. Coverage has not asked whether the block or tehsil has a list of risky ghats or any plan for festival crowds. Expect the search to continue for one or two more days, and the family’s claim for state relief to move through the tehsil once the case is closed. Confidence: low on the timing of the search, medium on the pattern.

What you should do: Keep children and anyone who cannot swim away from the lower steps at river ghats, especially after rain. If someone goes under, call 112 at once and give the ghat’s name and nearest village. Villages planning kathas or processions near the river this month can ask the local police station or gram panchayat to post volunteers at the ghat.
