Update. What happened: The rain stopped in Raebareli on Sunday, 1 November 2026, and weak sunshine came out around noon. Farmers went back to their fields to dry the wet paddy, Amar Ujala reports. The crop needs at least a week of drying before threshing. All 91 government paddy purchase centres were shut on Sunday and open again on Monday, 2 November. The district target is 1.81 lakh metric tonnes. Deputy Regional Marketing Officer Kamlesh Pandey said scales and other equipment are ready at the centres. District Agriculture Officer Akhilesh Pandey said teams from the insurance company and the agriculture department start a village survey of crop loss on Monday. He put the damage at 20 to 25 percent in some parts. Dainik Bhaskar also reported a 25 percent loss and the survey plan on 1 November. Our earlier report on the rain and purchase is here.
Why it matters: Paddy was planted on about 1.60 lakh hectares in the district this season. Wet grain fetches a lower price and many centres refuse grain with high moisture. A week of drying delays sales, and farmers need money for wheat sowing and festival costs. The survey decides who gets insurance money. The district advisory issued earlier in the season says crops insured under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana are covered by Universal Sompo General Insurance. It also says a harvested crop left in the field to dry is covered for 14 days against unseasonal rain. The weather office expects clear skies in the coming days, Amar Ujala reports.
Honest opinion: Clear weather now matters more than any order from the office. If the sun holds for a week, purchase should pick up by around 9 November. Small farmers who are not insured, or who did not report their loss in time, may get no help from the survey. Reports so far do not say how many farmers have filed claims. Confidence: medium.
What you should do: If your crop is insured, report the loss within 72 hours on the toll free number 14447, or at your bank branch, the block seed store or the district agriculture office. Keep photos of the damaged crop and your land papers ready for the survey team. Dry the grain well before you take it to a purchase centre, and register on the food department portal if you have not done so.
