Update: Bachhrawan police have arrested a man accused of killing his friend inside a house in Umrapur village. Amar Ujala reports the arrest took place on Monday, 2 November 2026. Police registered an FIR against the accused on a complaint from the dead man’s wife. Circle Officer (CO) Maharajganj Pradeep Kumar said police caught the accused after the FIR and are now questioning him. The arrest detail comes from a single source for now, an Amar Ujala report published at 12:22 AM IST on 3 November. On Sunday police found the man, about 35, dead with head injuries in a room, as we reported earlier.
What police say: Police say the two men were friends who drank together. The victim visited the accused on Sunday afternoon. Police allege that an argument broke out and the accused beat him with a lathi and sticks. Amar Ujala says the accused ran away after the attack, and police took the body into custody after villagers called them. Earlier reports from Bhaskar and Amrit Vichar said police had detained the house owner on Sunday night, and Station House Officer Shyamlal Pal said a fight while drinking looked likely. The reports appear to describe the same man, but police have not explained the gap between the two accounts. The post mortem report has not been made public. The accused is presumed innocent until a court decides.
