What happened: Lawyers in Salon held a sit-in on Monday, 2 November 2026, on the road leading to Salon Kotwali. They protested because police had not arrested anyone for an attack on a fellow advocate on 31 October. The protest began at about 12 noon IST and ended at about 1 PM, after police promised quick arrests. CO Salon Yaduvendra Bahadur Pal said police have formed a team to catch the accused. Police have registered an FIR for a life threatening attack on the advocate’s complaint.
The attack and the case: The advocate was on his way to the Salon tehsil on the evening of 31 October when a group stopped him and beat him. Amar Ujala and Raebareli Express say the attackers used iron rods. News Nation Bharat and Need24 say they used sticks and belts. He suffered serious head injuries and was admitted to the district hospital. Reports differ on the number of accused. Amar Ujala and Raebareli Express report four named and nine unknown people. News Nation Bharat reports six named and eight unknown, and Need24 reports five named. News Nation Bharat says the attack followed a dispute two days earlier. Lawyers Bar Association Salon general secretary Gyanendra Kumar Tripathi and other members said they were not satisfied with the police response. In Unchahar, lawyers also protested on Monday over this attack and the recent killing of a bar association president in Kalpi, Jalaun. Advocate Rajjan Mishra demanded an Advocate Protection Act, and the lawyers decided to stay away from court work, Star Express reports.
Why it matters: When lawyers stop work, hearings and tehsil work slow down for ordinary people. Litigants who travel to Salon and Unchahar for case dates may find their matters put off. Police say a team is working on arrests, and the bar is watching how fast that happens.
What you should do: If you have a hearing at Salon or Unchahar this week, call your lawyer before you travel to check whether work is going on. If you saw the attack near the Salon tehsil on 31 October, share what you know with Salon Kotwali police. In an emergency, call 112.
