What happened: Gadaganj police have arrested four men accused of stealing grain from a government ration shop and a grain trader. Police say the four were caught near the canal culvert by Jai Singh ka Purwa, in the Gaura Hardon area, after a tip off. Officers recovered 11 sacks of wheat, 4 sacks of rice and the vehicle used to carry the grain. The four were produced in court and sent to jail. Police shared the details on Saturday night, 31 October 2026, on the direction of Superintendent of Police Ravi Kumar, Dainik Bhaskar reports.
The theft took place on the night of 28 to 29 October at the fair price shop in Alipur Chakrai village. An earlier Dainik Bhaskar report from Jalalpur Dhai says police first recovered about 7.5 quintals of grain on Gaura road. Station House Officer Balendu Gautam said the accused were sent to judicial custody. Police say one accused is from the Unchahar police station area and two are from the Bhadokhar area. Raebareli Express also reports the four arrests and the same recovery. The reports differ on the vehicle. The earlier report calls it an e-rickshaw and the later one calls it an auto rickshaw.
Why it matters: A fair price shop serves hundreds of poor families under the free ration scheme. When stock is stolen, the dealer can run short, and card holders may be turned away or told to come back later. Families who live on daily wages feel this first. The recovery means the grain may return to the shop once the legal process allows it.
Honest opinion: Quick arrests and a recovery are good news for card holders in Alipur Chakrai. Still, recovered grain is often held as case property for some time before it is released. Police have not said whether this is the full quantity stolen, or whether more people were involved. Confidence: medium that the grain will reach the shop within weeks, not days.
What you should do: If you take ration from this shop, ask the dealer whether your share for November is in stock. If you are refused grain, note the date and complain on the Jansunwai portal or call the food and civil supplies helpline 1967. If you see grain being moved from a ration shop at night, tell Gadaganj police or dial 112.
