Update. What happened: Superintendent of Police Ravi Kumar launched Traffic Month 2026 at the Police Lines in Raebareli on Sunday, 1 November 2026. He cut the ribbon and flagged off an awareness rally and a publicity vehicle, Need24 News reports. Hindustan reports that he said the aim is to change road habits, not to issue challans. Additional Superintendent of Police Pawan Gautam, City Magistrate Ram Autar and the circle officers for the city, Police Lines and traffic were present. Our earlier report on police plans to train e-rickshaw drivers this month is here. That training detail still rests on one source.
Why it matters: Road crashes hurt many families in the district, and the recent Ganga Expressway bus crash showed the risk on fast roads. Many crashes on local roads involve two wheelers without helmets. The campaign runs through November. Police teams will talk about speed limits, helmets for both rider and pillion, seat belts in cars and the danger of using a mobile phone while driving. They will also explain the Good Samaritan scheme, which protects people who help crash victims reach hospital. Need24 News says the PM Rahat scheme will also be explained. This scheme supports cashless treatment for road crash victims. Many people still fear police questions if they help an injured stranger, so this message can save lives.
Honest opinion: A month of awareness is useful, but habits change slowly. Past campaigns in many districts drew big crowds on the first day and then lost pace. The real measure will be fewer crashes and deaths in November and December, compared with last year. Police should share those numbers at the end of the month. Steady checks on helmets and drunk driving after the campaign will matter as much as the rally. Confidence: medium.
What you should do: Wear a helmet every time, and make sure the pillion rider wears one too. Put on your seat belt, even for short trips in town. Keep your phone away while driving. If you see a crash, call 112 or 108 for help and take the injured person to the nearest hospital. The law protects you from harassment when you help. Schools and resident groups can ask the traffic police for an awareness session this month.
